About

Cat Burns

Catrina Burns-Temison (born 6 June 2000), known professionally as Cat Burns, is a British-Liberian singer-songwriter from Streatham, England. She rose to prominence with her song “Go”, released in July 2020 before reaching the number 2 position in the UK singles chart. The former BRIT school student went from busking on the Southbank to mastering Tik Tok in lockdown, singing a mix of her favourite covers and original music. As a result, she rapidly amassed around half a million followers in just three months and now sits on over 1 million followers on the platform. Drawing upon gospel influences, pop inspirations and a love of guitar-led and indie music too. She cites Ed Sheeran, India Arie and Tori Kelly as a few of her biggest inspirations. Burns recorded her debut EP Adolescent at the age of sixteen while studying at BRIT School. She collaborated with a fellow student who had access to a recording studio in their garden shed. The songs they created formed the basis of the EP, which Burns self-released on 1 October 2016. Subsequently, Burns released her second EP Naive on 15 May 2019. In 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom, Burns garnered widespread attention by sharing covers and original songs on TikTok. Her song "Go" went viral, leading to a record deal with Since 93, a subsidiary of RCA Records. Burns has been nominated three times for the Brit Awards. She released her debut album, Early Twenties, in July 2024. Early Twenties has received positive reviews from critics, and was nominated for the 2024 Mercury Prize.
